How to enable missing hibernate option in Windows 8

Windows 8 comes with power-packed features and smooth as a butter interface. However, I have noticed that if you wanted to hibernate your system, you wouldn’t find the option in the power menu. As such, you need to make some tweaks to ensure that you get that missing option. The power menu, by default only shows the following options:

  • Sleep
  • Shut Down
  • Restart

We understand that Microsoft eliminated the Start Menu button in Windows 8 but it is a bit weird to note that there is no Hibernate option. One reason could be the latest hybrid shutdown feature to shutdown Windows 8 faster than its predecessors. I see this to be the prime reason. Nevertheless, whatever the reason be, you can still add the Hibernate option. Follow the steps below:

1. Initiate Run (Windows Hot Key + R) + R. Type powercfg.cpl and click OK

Type powercfg CPL in run

2. Click on the left Choose what the power buttons do link.

Click Choose what the power options Do3. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable” link at the top.

Click Change Settings that are currenty unavailable4. Scroll down until you see the Hibernate option. Check it to enable this option in Windows 8. Now click Save Changes

Hibernate Check Enable

5. Now go to the Power Options of your system to see the Hibernate option as below:Hibernate Option
