Given tough competition in every niche, there is a dire need of creating and implementing a unique marketing plan and blogging is no different. Why do you think you need a blog marketing plan? Your website is getting indexed by major search engines, and you are getting traffic, but if you seriously want to become an authority just like Techcrunch, Mashable, Jeff Bullas, and Michael Hyatt (All are technology and social media related authority blogs/websites), then you need to implement a blog marketing plan.
In this post, I list 10 great tips of creating a compelling blog marketing plan. Let me tell you something, marketing is NOT and NEVER WOULD BE SELLING! Clear this confusion out of your mind if you have it. Instead, blog marketing refers to ways how you can promote your blog, establish your brand awareness, and get quality targeted traffic. I am a big follower of Hubspot, which relies on inbound marketing. You can read several articles on the link and develop a solid content marketing plan for your blog
Your blog is your business – Treat your blog as a business product. Just like successful businesses develop marketing plans, identify their target market and create pricing strategies, your blog shouldn’t be different either. In order to be a successful blogger, here is how you can create a beautiful road map plan for promoting your blog:
1. Define your niche
2. Define your target market
3. Analyze your competition
Have a look around at your competitors. Every one in your niche is a competitor, where a personal blogger or an authority site. However do keep your standards high and follow how authority sites in your niche update themselves and earn revenue off their blogs. Develop a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Weaknesses) plan for your blog so that you can better analyze everything. You should include points such as target market, website design, blog design, navigation type, blogging frequency, etc.
4. Interact with your audience
5. Provide unique solutions
How does your blog stack up to your competitors? Has it delivered what you promised? What is your voice and writing style? How is it compared with the authority websites in your niche? Make sure that you answer these questions to gain competitive advantage in the market.
6. Syndicate through other blogs
Have you syndicated your blog with NetWorked Blog, social media websites? You can get good chunk of targeted traffic from there. This helps you to gain competitive advantage in your niche because you would be better off in getting backlinks and traffic from social media websites.
7. Monetize your blog
- Google Adsense
- InfoLinks Text Ads
- Kontera network
- Your own ad space
- Buy & Sell Ads
8. Create a marketing strategy for your blog
You need to promote and market your blog to the world. Some of the best methods are:
- Write regular content for faster indexing by search engines
- Write guest posts (At least once a week should do good)
- Diversifying the nature of content
- Sharing content through RSS feeds and social media websites
Another great method of marketing your blog is optimizing it for search engines. I wouldn’t suggest you go for paid search engine placements. Do some effort now and gain long term returns by getting high quality traffic from SEO. PPC is a quick but short term solution that I do not rely upon in any way. I read a good guest post on free traffic generating methods for a blog Matt Smith of OnlineIncomeTeacher.com.
9. Create a feasible Budget
In the beginning, budget could be a big problem but also your blog grows and you start earning revenue from it, you can maintain some percentage of your monthly income toward your blog. How can you reinvest in your blog at the same time? Here are some methods:
- Hiring freelance/permanent writers to write regularly
- Optimizing your site by hiring an SEO consultant or a company
- Redesigning your website
- Promoting on social media websites through paid advertisements
The more you invest in your blog, the higher the ranking and the better the outcome. I hope that helps. I want you to share what marketing plan you have for your website/blog? Let me know.. I can learn a lot from your experience 🙂
